If you visit the Iowa State Fair this year, you’ll have the chance to meet the Iowa artist whose annual creation honoring veterans has developed a worldwide following.
I introduced you here on the blog earlier this year to Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II, the Greenfield artist whose incredible work is featured on the lottery’s “The Freedom Rock™” instant-scratch tickets that benefit the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund. Each year, Bubba paints a huge boulder in Adair County with a message of thanks to our nation’s veterans and has it ready to be unveiled on Memorial Day weekend.
The State Fair asked him this year to paint a boulder inside the Cultural Center with a similarly patriotic message. When we stopped to see Bubba at work on Saturday, he already had a flag already painted over the top of the rock. We can’t wait to see the finished product!
