Are There Lights In Those Dispensers?

Over the next few weeks, the Iowa Lottery will be rolling out some new dispensers in a test to see how you like them. I think they’ll definitely catch your eye and when they do, look closer. They look like they’re lighted, but they’re not!

The dispensers are called Show-N-Glow, and we’re rolling them out as a trial to display our instant-scratch tickets in about 200 retail locations around Iowa. Show-N-Glow is produced right here in Iowa by Schafer Systems Inc. in Adair, so it’s nice to try out a home-state product! We started installing the new dispensers in some retail locations last week and we’ll be continuing the installations for the next couple weeks.

Schafer Systems first showed us a demo of the dispensers last fall and I’ll admit it: I fell for the “trick”! The dispensers look like they’re lighted from within, but they’re not. A special way of cutting the plastic bounces the light around and just makes it look like they’re lighted.

We initially looked at red and green versions of the dispensers, but red is used so much inside retail locations here in Iowa that the red ones blended in instead of standing out. So we’re going with green instead.

We think the dispensers will make for a fun, new way of displaying our tickets. We’d love to know what you think when you see them!

they are very eye catching, but i have noticed when the clerk pulls the bingos and crosswords out, it scratchs some of the numbers and letters.
