We can’t get enough of the Mega Millions® news! Tonight is the very first drawing that will include tickets purchased in Iowa.
The estimated jackpot for tonight’s drawing is $12 million. This comes after a ticket purchased in Texas claimed the estimated $144 million jackpot for last Friday’s drawing.
As we’ve said before, the jackpots start at $12 million and grow until they’re won, so Iowans will have plenty of chances to win playing Mega Millions, along with Powerball and Hot Lotto.

That’s a great question Mike. There were some technical difficulties that prevented the Mega Millions drawing from airing at its regular time this past Friday. The drawing was held approximately one hour later. The TV stations that air the drawings in Iowa were not able to show it that night since the satellite feed window for the drawing is only open for about 6 minutes. However, the numbers were posted to the Mega Millions, Powerball and Iowa Lottery Web sites and video of the drawing is available online.
Since the Megaplier option is not offered in all of the states that sell Mega Millions, the actual drawing for the Megaplier number has always been a separate drawing prior to the Mega Millions drawing. The drawing for the Megaplier number is actually done in Texas, not in Georgia where the Mega Millions drawings are held. It is then the responsibility of each state that offers the Megaplier option to add the Megaplier drawing to the Mega Millions drawing, thus they will both appear on the 10 p.m. broadcast in Iowa.
A complete list of all of the Iowa Lottery’s lotto games drawing times can be found on our Web site: http://www.ialottery.com/Games/DrawingTimes.html
There are, of course, several ways can check the winning numbers. We recommend players use the following sources to check their tickets: watch the televised drawing (if available); check the Lottery home page; ask retailers to print winning numbers from the terminal; call Lottery winning numbers line at 515.323.4633; listen to results on local radio stations (if available); check results in local newspapers (if available).
