The official results show that 114,195 tickets sold in Iowa won prizes in last night’s record Powerball jackpot drawing. The monster $587.5 million jackpot was split by two tickets purchased in Arizona and Missouri that matched all six numbers drawn.
Strong sales across the country pushed the record jackpot higher and higher as the week went on. After last night’s drawing was completed, officials found an issue with the automatic calculation report for the jackpot and adjusted it up once more. The final jackpot amount was $587.5 million annuity, or $384.7 million cash option. That blew away the previous jackpot record in Powerball, a $365 million prize split by eight co-workers at a Nebraska meat-packing plant in February 2006.
Iowa Lottery players won prizes ranging from $4 up to $40,000 last night. Four tickets purchased in Iowa matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball to win prizes of $10,000 each. Three more also matched those same numbers, but had the Power Play option added to them, so they each won a prize of $40,000. Here’s where those winning tickets were sold across the state:

Hi, Dee. Thanks for your comment to the blog. Just to clarify, Powerball is a game that is sold in Iowa, 41 other states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. So, there will be winners from Iowa, but many other locations as well. Powerball has always been a multi-state game since its start in 1992. The whole idea behind the game was for states to join together to produce bigger jackpots than they would be able to achieve on their own. Thanks for your interest!

I don't understand how people out of the state of Iowa can qualify. Isn't the name Iowa Powerball? False mispresentation.

3 + Powerball $100 $200 1 in 12,244.83
Hum, maybe I am not as intelligent as these lottery officials, but could anyone tell me where the "powerball" is? could someone also tell me how you are getting paid a better payout for that extra buck or is this just falsely advertizing the game? before when a person paid a dollar less they matched 3 and the powerball and they could get paid 500 hundred dollars, now with this extra buck I get a better pay out for that extra buck at a flat out 200.00? I think the powerball officials are down right falsely advertizing this game because I could never get paid that 500 dollars now, but the lottery sure will get that extra buck to pay me less, what a rip off someone should talk to these lottery officials and tell them to quit advertizing this game with false information. you do not get paid a better prize for that extra buck, just the lottery people!
