Hi, Ben. I've blogged a few different times about this through the years. Here in Iowa, it's illegal to use a credit card to purchase lottery tickets. The use of a DEBIT card is fine, though. Here is my latest blog entry about it. There are lots of good comments to the entry, too.

I've heard if you use a credit card or debit card and win the jackpot it would be void. Is that true?

Hi, James. Here in Iowa, a Powerball ticket must be purchased at a licensed lottery retail location for the play to be legal. We do not believe that activities of the type you have referenced are legal here, and any attempted claim from such a ticket would be heavily scrutinized.

I have heard that tickets are being sold over the internet in Australia and Canada. Are these legal sales?
