A lottery player sent us an interesting question this week about the specifics involved in claiming a lottery prize. And in case you’ve ever wondered about the same thing, here are the details we shared with her:
A woman named Marie sent us the question on Facebook about prizes in the Pick 4 game. Specifically, she asked if she had two plays on the same ticket and won a $500 prize on each play, whether she could claim them separately. That approach would mean she could claim the prizes at the retail level rather than from the lottery directly, as prizes of $600 or less can be claimed at a lottery retailer (if sufficient funds are available at that location).
In the instance that she described, the prizes could not be claimed separately because they were won on the same ticket. So, she would need to claim her $1,000 in winnings by visiting one of our offices or mailing the ticket to us here at the lottery.
Great question, Marie!
And in another Pick 4-related detail, please remember to check your tickets! Two prizes of $30,000 that were both won in February in Iowa City are still unclaimed and will expire Tuesday if they are not claimed before then.
