Later today, we get to attend the grand opening of a special business that’s been two years in the making. It’s an honor to be part of the story and we offer our HUGE congratulations to Brian and Mary Lohse on this new venture!
Here at the lottery, we met Brian and Mary in September 2012 as they claimed a $202.1 million Powerball® jackpot they’d won with a ticket Mary purchased during a stop to gas up her car.
I remember how they described their lottery win that day, and the responsibility they said they felt for the money. They said they knew that fortune had smiled on them with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and they wanted to use a portion of their winnings to accomplish good in their community. And one of the things they knew that Bondurant had always wanted but never had was a grocery store.
They put plans in place to change that. And this afternoon, the Lohses will celebrate the grand opening of Brick Street Market & Café, their new business that also happens to be Bondurant’s first grocery store. I think that’s called a plan coming together!
The Iowa Lottery will be part of the celebration, too! If you’re at the store this afternoon, look for our lottery table there – we’ll be set up near customer service. We’ll have a wheel spin promotion from 4-6 p.m., and the first 300 people to visit us will get a coupon for a free Powerball play. (Hey, the Lohses won Powerball, maybe you’ll be next!) If you buy $10 in lottery tickets, you can spin the wheel to win a prize. And if you buy $20 in “Mike’s Picks” scratch tickets, you’ll get an Antique Archaeology T-shirt or cap.
We’ll take lots of photos and shoot video of the festivities this afternoon, so check back here on Monday to see some scenes from the day!
