Can you feel the heat? Central Iowa is under a heat advisory. With a high of 95 expected today and a heat index of about 100 degrees by noon, what are you doing to stay cool?
Keep in mind that those most affected by a heat wave are outdoor workers, the elderly, children and pets. Everyone is welcome to stop by Cooling Centers, such as public libraries and malls to rest and recoup.
What should you be looking for on days like today? Here are some of the warning signs and symptoms of heat stroke: Lack of sweating; Flushed skin; Racing heart; Unconsciousness; Dizziness or Lightheadedness; Nausea and vomiting; Muscle cramps – to name a few. If you experience these symptoms, it may be time to call 911.
Also, be sure to make some time to call neighbors, friends and family members who do not have air conditioning to make sure they are OK at least twice a day. This is just some of the great advice you’ll find from the Polk County Health Department.
