Some big news for us here at the lottery was announced earlier this winter. I’m highlighting it here on the blog because it’s just as important for anyone who’s ever played one of our games. The Iowa Lottery has gotten another clean report from the State Auditor's Office.
Under state law, the Auditor reviews the Lottery’s operations each year. Those checks are in addition to the security and integrity standards the Lottery uses throughout its operations to ensure the veracity of its games. Click here to see the latest report from State Auditor Mary Mosiman regarding her office’s fiscal year 2014 audit of the Lottery.
The official language in the report includes these highlights:
• In the opinion of the Auditor’s Office, the financial statements of the lottery for FY 2014 “present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of the Iowa Lottery Authority as of June 30, 2014.”
• The Auditor’s Office “did not identify any deficiencies in internal control we consider to be material weaknesses.”
• The results of tests conducted by the Auditor’s Office “disclosed no instances of non-compliance or other matters that are required to be reported under Government Auditing Standards.”
Why is that a big deal? In everyday language, it means that an outside auditor reviewed the financial operations of the Iowa Lottery and gave us a clean bill of health.
We look at the auditor's report each year as a check of how we're doing. We’re proud of our record here at the lottery and know that integrity has to be at the heart of everything we do. It’s just as important as the sales we achieve.
