Our lottery just got a national recognition that was months in the making. It goes to the heart of integrity and best practices, and we know that matters to you as a lottery player.
We’ve been recognized with a quality-assurance verification from the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) and its third-party assessor, The Open Group, an international consortium that’s a leader in I.T. standards and certifications.
NASPL represents 52 lotteries in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and has developed best practices intended to provide lotteries and vendors with a simple, documented method for building quality into their procedures.
The best-practices verification we received is for the testing we use when we update our statewide gaming system. That system is made up of the lottery terminals you see in our retail locations along with the central communications backbone that connects them all. The system is a big deal for us because it’s used to sell lottery tickets and verify prizes all across the state.
As you can imagine, we make changes to our gaming system very, very carefully. Our team documents the tests we plan to do to ensure a change can successfully be made, then we carry out that testing and review the results. Changes are implemented only after we’re satisfied with our testing results. The process is designed to ensure that things proceed as seamlessly as possible. If we’ve done it right, there won’t be any disruption for our retailers or you as a customer.
NASPL’s review of our procedures was a five-month process and the verification designation is good for three years. Details definitely matter in our work and we’re really proud of this recognition!
