My blog entry last week about self-checkers and lottery terminals prompted a reader to ask a great question that I’ll share with you here, along with my answer!
A man named Mike wondered if store personnel can turn down the volume on lottery terminals so no one will hear the “You’re a winner!” audio that plays when a winning ticket is scanned. Mike wrote: “While waiting for the clerk to check my tickets, I always listen for that. Then I thought, ‘What if it's turned down, or off?’”
As I shared with Mike, retail locations can’t adjust the sound. The volume level on our terminals is set by the lottery and it’s not possible for retail employees to adjust it. That’s a security feature in place so you’ll hear the “You're a winner!” message if you have a winning ticket scanned at a lottery terminal.
As Mike noted in his comment, it’s a good verification step to help you as a player realize you’ve won a prize.
Hi, Dottie. Thanks for reaching out to us here on the blog. Nothing has happened to the results in Pick 3 and Pick 4 -- the drawings are conducted as they always are, with security and outside auditors present to ensure they are being carried out in a secure manner. It's random statistics that determine the odds of winning in our games, so not even we know when the next big winner will hit. Thank you for playing and we wish you the best of luck with your lottery play.

I would like to know what happened to winning with 3 numbers or 4? All I ever get now is the ball and maybe 1 number! Or only 1 in the front 5. I play all the time but I'm getting tired of never winning!
