It’s that time of year when we can find ourselves frantically cleaning before family and friends arrive. As you’re doing your pre-holiday cleaning, don’t forget to check for any lottery tickets that you may have around. Right now here in Iowa, there are 39 unclaimed lottery prizes of more than $600, and 17 of those are for $3,000 or more. The largest on the list is a $1 million prize won earlier this month in Council Bluffs.
The unclaimed prizes were won in several different lotto games as well as our InstaPlay games. So double-check your tickets -- or if you haven’t checked them at all yet, take the time to do that. Maybe you have one of the prizes on the unclaimed list.
Remember that there are different time frames involved for claiming prizes in different games, so be sure you know the deadlines that apply for the tickets that you buy.
Oh, and happy cleaning!
Hi, Linda. I think there may have been a typo in your comment, and you meant that you bought a ticket while you were in Indiana, right? All of the U.S. states that sell lottery tickets are part of the Powerball game, so you can check the winning numbers in Powerball drawings from anywhere -- you don't have to drive to Indiana to do that. Here is the Powerball website where you can always check the results of drawings: http://www.powerball.com/pb_home.asp. If you won a prize on a ticket you bought in Indiana, you will need to claim that prize from the Hoosier Lottery. That lottery allows a lot of prizes to be claimed by mail, just like we do here in Iowa. Here is a link to the Hoosier Lottery website, should you need to look up an address or other detail: https://www.hoosierlottery.com/
