As the summer months have hit, we’ve gotten more requests from organizations and teams wondering if the lottery can give them a donation. There are so, so many good causes out there, and we’re always glad to hear about the way that people are helping out in their communities.
But for the Iowa Lottery specifically, state law directs that all lottery proceeds go to state causes, so it’s not possible for the lottery to provide funding to individual requests.
Today, lottery proceeds in Iowa have three main purposes: They provide support for our state’s veterans and their families through the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund; help for a variety of significant projects through the state General Fund; and backing for the Vision Iowa program, which was implemented to create tourism destinations and community attractions and build and repair schools.
