Update on Friday, Oct. 25: We're still waiting to meet the Lucky for Life winner, but the Powerball prize has been claimed! Anita Kent of Burlington claimed her $100,000 Powerball prize yesterday at our Cedar Rapids office.
Iowa saw 2 big winners in last night’s lottery drawings. A Lucky for Life® prize of $25,000 a year for life was won in Des Moines and a $100,000 Powerball® prize was won in Burlington!
Details About The Winning Lucky for Life Ticket
The Lucky for Life ticket in Des Moines won Iowa’s 21st big prize in that game since its January 2016 debut in our state. The ticket matched the first 5 numbers but missed the Lucky Ball in last night’s Lucky for Life drawing to win at the game’s second prize of $25,000 a year for life.
The winning ticket was purchased at Hy-Vee, 2540 E. Euclid Ave. in Des Moines. Last night’s winning Lucky for Life numbers were: 9-12-22-25-44 and Lucky Ball 9.
Hy-Vee will receive a $500 bonus from the lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Details About The Winning Powerball Ticket
The Powerball ticket in Burlington initially matched 4 of the white balls and the Powerball in last night’s drawing to win $50,000. But whoever bought the lucky ticket added the Power Play® option to it, which doubled the prize to $100,000.
The winning ticket was purchased at Liquorland, 600 S. Main St. in Burlington. Last night’s winning Powerball numbers were: 2-15-27-29-39 and Powerball 20. The Power Play number was 2.
Liquorland will receive a $100 bonus from the lottery for selling the winning ticket.

Hello, A. Bartley. I can feel the frustration in your comment here. Please take a break from playing or stop entirely if playing the lottery is making you unhappy or causing you stress. It should be something you do just for fun. Take care of you.

I'm tired of buying power ball or mega with either 1 number or no numbers.
I have had one winner on mega since it began and that was my free one in September of this year.
Use to win on Lotto America if bought extra but that don't even happen now. Buy it every Mon & Wed & Sat with extra.
Almost every winner that you post goes to bigger cities. Same goes for play them again promotions. Tired of hearing about population too that should have nothing to do with it. That just means you pick area that wins to me.

Hi, Bob. Two main reasons come into play there: The first is population and the second is what players have told us they want. But we understand what you're saying, and I can share your feedback here at the lottery. Lottery games and the prizes that can be offered in them are designed upon the population base playing the games. (That's why smaller states years ago banded together to form the Powerball game because they knew they would never be able to achieve huge jackpot prizes on their own.) Iowa, with a state population of about 3.2 million and a minimum legal purchasing age of 21 for lottery tickets, is small compared to Illinois, which is nearly four times our size with a state population of 12.5 million and a minimum purchasing age of 18 for lottery tickets. And, over time, our players have told us they prefer more chances to win prizes in our scratch games, even if that means the top prizes would be smaller, rather than just one or two shots at a really big prize. So for example, the current $30 "Premiere" scratch game has 17 top prizes (eight of which have been claimed so far). It's all a balancing act in terms of what can be achieved within the limitations of the population base involved. Thanks for the question!

I have a question for the Iowa Lottery. Why do the scratch-off tickets in Iowa have Low Top Prizes compared to other states? For example Illinois has several $10 tickets with a Top Prize of $1 million. $20 tickets with a top prize of $2 million. Even a $5 ticket with a top prize of 1 million. Their $30 tickets is Top Prize of $3 million. Iowa $30 ticket only has a top prize of $300,000. Why? Just why..
Iowa needs a chance at a 1 million or better scratch off ticket option. But it should only cost $10. Not $50 or whatever Iowa lottery would try to sell them for
