Here’s a story that’s the complete opposite of the unclaimed prizes that can sit out there for months without a winner coming forward.
In this particular case, a Des Moines man made SURE his prize didn’t get away. He claimed it about 45 minutes after he won it!
Mike Ewald of Des Moines claimed a jackpot prize of $17,140.80 yesterday afternoon in an InstaPlay game. He said he made his usual stop at a local convenience store and bought a ticket while he was there. After scanning the ticket with the lottery's mobile app on his phone, he immediately grabbed an image of the prize message and texted it to his wife.
Mike says his lottery win has great timing, landing just before his 8th wedding anniversary. He says his wife will get a little spoiled this year, with a trip to the jewelry store likely on the way!
Mike is 48 and works as a truck driver hauling roll-off dumpsters. He says that in addition to the anniversary plans, he may upgrade the stereo system on the couple’s motorcycle or even get a new tattoo. And some of the winnings will go into savings.
Mike bought his winning ticket at Kum & Go, 2110 Guthrie Ave. in Des Moines. He won the jackpot prize in the MONOPOLY™ Game Tokens Progressive InstaPlay game from the Iowa Lottery and licensed by Scientific Games, LLC.
