Graduation Gift To Himself: College Grad Buys Lottery Ticket, Wins $50,000

A new college graduate bought a lottery scratch ticket after a celebratory dinner with his family and won $50,000.

Jonathan Labrador of Davenport said he and his family had just finished dinner and were on their way back to the hotel where his parents were staying for his graduation weekend at St. Ambrose University when he and his father stopped at a convenience store for fuel. While they were there, they also decided to buy some lottery scratch tickets. Jonathan, who said he remembered playing the computer version of the game years ago, decided to buy a “Frogger Level II” scratch ticket.

He scratched the ticket that night at the hotel where his parents were staying and realized he’d won big. He said it was “just like going on a roller coaster in five seconds.” It was the first Frogger scratch ticket he’d ever played and he called it “a perfect way to jump in.”

Jonathan said his parents are from Puerto Rico, so his big win made them feel better about how he’s situated for the future as they were leaving to head home. Jonathan is 22 and majored in mechanical engineering at St. Ambrose. His good news has continued this month, as he’s just received a job offer at a Davenport company.

Jonathan bought his winning ticket at the Kwik Shop at 303 W. Locust St. in Davenport. He claimed his $50,000 prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery’s regional office in Cedar Rapids. He won the sixth of 10 top prizes of $50,000 available in the $5 scratch game.

He said that his lottery winnings will definitely help with his student loans.

Player Mail: Why Didn't My Frogger Scratch Ticket Win?

We’ve fielded several calls and emails recently from players asking why they didn’t win a prize for uncovering three similar prize amounts on their Frogger scratch ticket, so we thought that we’d share the answer here on the Blog.

Here’s the scenario we’re hearing about: I uncovered two Frog head symbols with a $25 prize attached and a standalone $25 prize amount, why didn’t I win $25?

As both the legend at the bottom of the playing area of the ticket, as well as the detailed rules on the back of the ticket state, you must uncover three identical symbols or prize amounts across all three Frog paths to win that prize.

To put it simply, if the three squares you are questioning do not match exactly, then unfortunately you didn’t win that prize.

In our Frogger game, the Frog head and coin are considered winning symbols and the standalone $ amounts are considered prize amounts.

More Frogger Scratch Tickets & Prizes Now Available

Tickets in our Frogger scratch game have been hopping off the shelves in retail locations all across the state!

Since this game first went on sale May 1, tickets have been selling at a ribbeting pace! We’ve heard from players who have had a tough time finding this ticket because some retailers are selling out of their supply very quickly. And we were starting to wonder how we were going to fill all of the retailer orders with the supply of tickets dwindling so quickly due to the popularity of the game.

So, we ordered more tickets! This means starting today there are more tickets available to purchase and with it comes more chances to win prizes instantly!

We’ve added four more $50,000 top prizes as well as more prizes at each of the other prize levels in this game. You’ll notice these changes on the remaining prizes page of our website.

So, game on! Our amphibian adventure this summer can continue.

The First Of Our Summer Events Are Scheduled!

With warm weather finally here in Iowa, we’re starting to schedule special events at retail locations around the state. We’ll kick things off in Des Moines and Newton this week and then it’s on to places far and wide after that!

Each spring and summer, we hold events at retail locations across the state to thank you for playing, meet you in person and give you a chance to win special prizes. It’s one more way for us to interact with our players and retailers and hear what you have to say. We’ll have Wheel Spin contests at all of our events and in the spots where there is room, we’ll also have a BIG Frogger game board that you can play.

Our events will all be listed on our promotions page, so be sure to check back there as we continue to add to the list. Our first event was from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1 at a Quik Trip in Des Moines.

How DID The Frog Cross The Road?

We’re having some fun with our new “Frogger” scratch game with a pair of billboards in Des Moines. The 48-foot vinyl billboards are across the street from each other on S.E. 14th Street just south of the downtown area. And since one of the goals of anyone playing Frogger is to get your frog safely across a busy highway, we decided to put that visual into action with these two billboards.

They went up on Monday and will be on display through July 2. (No frogs were harmed in the process of putting up these messages!)

Just In Time For Spring: Frogger!

 With the return of spring, lots of creatures are hopping around outside … and on the tickets in one of our new scratch games! The “Frogger” game begins sales today in Iowa, bringing with it a fun throw-back look at the early days of video gaming!

This new $5 scratch game comes complete with frogs; cars and trucks the frogs need to avoid as they cross the road; and turtles, alligators and logs the frogs can try to ride across the river to reach the finish line and win a prize. And hold onto your tickets because starting next week, you can use nonwinning Frogger tickets to enter a Play It Again® promotion with cash and merchandise as prizes.
