Strong sales in Iowa and across the country have pushed the giant Powerball jackpot even higher for Wednesday's drawing. The jackpot, initially estimated at $450 million for Wednesday, was raised this afternoon to an estimated $485 million annuity ($327.7 million cash option).
We talked about it here on the blog last week, but the Powerball® story is definitely still going strong this week, with the jackpot at an estimated $485 million annuity ($327.7 million cash option) for Wednesday’s drawing. It’s been growing for more than two months without a winner and is now the third-largest jackpot in the history of the game and the fifth largest lottery prize ever offered in North America.
Players across the country won more than 2.2 million prizes ranging from $4 up to $2 million in Saturday’s drawing, even without the jackpot being hit. Ten tickets across the country matched the first five numbers to win a $1 million prize, while another won a $2 million prize by matching the first five numbers and adding the Power Play® option to the play.
Here in our state, more than 30,000 plays purchased by Iowa Lottery players won prizes in Saturday’s drawing ranging from $4 up to $10,000. Three tickets – purchased in Center Point, Sioux City and Dysart – came within one number of having a share of Saturday’s big prize and won prizes of $10,000 each.
Each ticket that won a $10,000 prize matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball. They were purchased at: Center Point Travel Plaza, 696 Grain Lane in Center Point; Central Mart, 800 Hamilton Blvd. in Sioux City; and John’s Qwik Stop, 702 Wilson St. in Dysart.
The winning numbers in Saturday’s Powerball jackpot drawing were: 5-10-21-34-58 and Powerball 33. The Power Play number was 5.
